  • Background

Born in Ireland, educated in the UK and now settled back in Ireland, having travelled round the world and lived and worked in Japan, I am open to considering different ways of doing things.

I studied drama at Rose Bruford, History of Ideas and English Literature at Kingston University and Teaching at Cambridge, before becoming a mum three times over to Timmy (6), Merrily (3) and Aisling (1).

I come from an endlessly creative family, where every member has made their livelihoods from the arts.

My grandmother, Lucy Crocker Pearce, helped to set up the Pioneer Health Centre in the 1930s and was co-author of the book on it The Peckham Experiment. This has been heralded as paving the way for the NHS, by showing the value of social, holistic health care for communities. She was also involved in the establishment of the YHA and Soil Association.

She and my grandfather established Shanagarry Pottery, making classic, handmade back and white earthenware, here in East Cork in 1953.

My father is the potter and designer, Stephen Pearce, who started his own iconic pottery in 1973.

My uncle is Simon Pearce, renowned glassblower based in Vermont, USA. His youngest son is Kevin Pearce, Olympic snowboarding hopeful, who is miraculously recovering from a near-fatal traumatic brain injury in 2010.

    Ethos

My intention is to assist in a re-visioning of our culture into one which is rich in more than material terms, one which prioritises human and ecological needs above those of institutions and the economy. I am actively involved with community projects in our local area in order to further these aims. I aim to help build creativity, sustainability, fulfillment, greater awareness and self-sufficiency in individuals, families and communities.
